The heart of man is evil continually, or something to that effect. Your warnings of internal church predators validated again.

A big fear I have, with the experience I have gone through. Boy, am I ever more vigilant about everyone now.

Just shoot him and call it good. This obviously wasn't his first time.

Perhaps I missed it, but was this guy a church member who was vouched for by other church members, or was he just somebody who answered an add for a security guard? Our church has no paid security roles, and we look at a person’s spiritual maturity, history with the church, and the impression they make on church staff and current team members before we invite someone to join. We do continue to have background checks done regularly, but we also monitor attitude and behavior while they serve with us. I do understand that, if a church perceives a need for 24/7 security, that they will usually draw from a different applicant pool than that from which they select the forward facing volunteer security team. I also understand that the two-person integrity rule can’t be afforded for the after hours guard watching over the property only. Nonetheless, this incident is most certainly unfortunate and the risk of such egregious and reprehensible behavior has to be taken seriously by church leadership, including church security leadership everywhere. We have to be better than the mall and the convenience store in choosing, vetting, and training who we allow to protect us.
