Man Attempted To Enter Church With Tactical Rifle
A 25-year-old man has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm after allegedly attempting to enter a Dallas-area church with a tactical rifle during a Mass on November 2, 2023. Authorities say the man, after briefly attending the service, retrieved the rifle from his vehicle and attempted to re-enter the church, but parishioners had locked the door. The incident is linked to a prior investigation involving a 2022 fatal shooting, where the man claimed self-defense. Prosecutors also cited evidence of ongoing drug use, which under federal law prohibits firearm possession. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison. The church’s name was not disclosed, but the case highlights ongoing security concerns in places of worship.
Score one for lock down procedures. Are you practicing your lock down procedures? You should be putting them into your scenario line up during training. Common sense also prevails. Here, the parishioners realized something was off, kept an eye on him and listened to their voice in their head that told them something was off. Most people don’t listen to that voice in their head.
Antioch Pastor Restrains Axe-Wielding Burglar at Church
The pastor of First Family Church in Antioch, California, restrained an axe-wielding burglar who broke into the church early Thursday morning. Responding to an alarm, the pastor discovered the suspect, who had smashed a window with an axe to gain entry. When confronted, the burglar attempted to fight instead of flee, but the pastor subdued him until police arrived. Antioch Police commended the pastor for his actions and confirmed he was unharmed during the incident. The suspect was taken into custody, highlighting the community’s effort to address local crime.
I used to live in the city next to this. Antioch is a crime ridden city that has its own FBI violent crime task force (now you know why I left CA to move back to the United States). OK, first off, the police more than likely did not respond because they have too many calls for service. Many people in this city have to take things into their own hands. Many of you have churches in cities like this. If you have to clear your church because the police cannot respond, take at least one other person with you. First, check the perimeter. If you see signs of a break in, then call 911 and let them know. Your call for service is now upgraded. If you need to go inside to check the inside, I suggest you have a firearm and that you clear the inside using CQB tactics. If you encounter someone inside, challenge them at gunpoint (make sure you have a less than lethal option with you in addition to your firearm). Call 911 and let them know you have someone at gunpoint. That call will upgrade you to the very top of the list.
Mulberry Man Arrested for Threatening Churchgoers and Deputies
David Coleman, 52, was arrested on November 24, 2024, after disrupting a Mulberry, Florida, church service and threatening parishioners for the second consecutive week. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Coleman interrupted the pastor's sermon and made threats of violence, including the suggestion of a mass shooting. When confronted, Coleman admitted he was "venting" but continued issuing threats, including against deputies and their families. Deputies discovered marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia in his possession during the arrest. Coleman faces three felony charges, including threats against law enforcement, and three misdemeanors. A judge also issued a Risk Protection Order, temporarily barring him from firearm access.
If someone is interrupting your church service, remove them. If they are threatening a mass shooting, take their word for it that they want to do what they are saying. Never minimize someone’s behavior and words. Remove them immediately, keep an eye on them while another person calls police and lock your church down until the police resolve the incident.
SEX CRIMES
Former Youth Pastor Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of Minors at Minnesota Church
A former youth pastor at The Vineyard Church in Duluth, Minnesota, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to criminal sexual conduct involving five minors. The incidents occurred between 2007 and 2010 when the victims, aged 12 to 16, were part of the church’s youth group. An investigation began in 2022 after a former member came forward, leading to additional reports. Church officials stated that an independent investigation found extensive misconduct and a failure to address allegations properly. Civil lawsuits have been filed against the former pastor, his parents—who held leadership roles in the church—and church leadership.
Former Oklahoma Pastor Arrested for Alleged Lewd Acts with a Minor
James McMillan, a former pastor at several churches in Oklahoma, was arrested by Cleveland County deputies on charges of committing lewd or indecent acts with a minor under 16. Court records indicate McMillan has been named in multiple Department of Human Services and law enforcement cases alleging sexual abuse dating back to 2003. A recent incident involved a minor who reported inappropriate behavior while traveling with McMillan. Former members of Slaughterville Baptist Church, where McMillan served as lead pastor, expressed relief at his arrest. The church has since been renamed and is under new leadership. Authorities believe there may be additional victims and encourage anyone with information to contact the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office at 405-366-7867.
If he was a pastor at one of your churches, or even a volunteer, you need to start searching for victims. Put out an email blast, put it in the newsletter, and speak about it from the pulpit. Let the victims know that you are there for them and to help them. When they come forward, comfort them and help them come to the police so that justice can prevail.
Cumberland County Pastor Charged in Prostitution Investigation
Stephen Melton, 65, pastor of Big Spring Presbyterian Church in Newville, Pennsylvania, has been charged with felony patronizing a victim of sexual servitude and misdemeanor patronizing prostitutes. According to Cumberland County authorities, Melton allegedly visited the GL Massage Spa over 68 times in five months, paying for sex acts. Investigators state Melton confessed to the charges but claimed he was also concerned for the welfare of workers, leaving them items such as food and clothing. The spa was shut down as part of a broader human trafficking sting that has led to 85 arrests. Melton is free on $10,000 unsecured bail, with a preliminary hearing set for January 15, 2025.
I investigated many of these cases. Some of the suspects were church going people or pastors. Some reading this newsletter may engage in the services of a prostitute. Don’t. First, it’s a sin. Second, many of these prostitutes are forced into the situation they are in and you are contributing to their enslavement. Yes, this does happen in America. Frequently.

Bishop T.D. Jakes Suffers Medical Incident During Church Service in Dallas
Bishop T.D. Jakes, leader of The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas, Texas, experienced a medical emergency onstage during a service on Sunday, prompting concern among churchgoers and followers. The 67-year-old pastor, who appeared visibly unwell and requested a chair before collapsing, has since been reported to be recovering under medical care. His representatives confirmed the incident was minor and ruled out a stroke. Family members and church leaders have expressed gratitude for his improving condition. Jakes, known for his wide-reaching ministry, media ventures, and relentless schedule, has not publicly addressed potential retirement plans, though the event has reignited discussions on clergy burnout and the need for rest among faith leaders.
Medical team, do you know if your pastor has any signficant medical issues? Security team, do you have a plan in place for crowd control if your pastor goes down? For the medical team; I would talk to your pastor about any special medical concerns and have what you need ready in case they go down. As an example, I had a SWAT team member allergic to to bee stings. Sure enough, he was stung during an incident and I was able to treat him quickly knowing he was going to have issues. Security; you should have a plan in place to control people that may rush the stage to “help” the pastor if something were to happen. Either way, make sure this type of incident goes into your scenario line up.
Fort Myers Felon Wanted for Selling Drugs Near Local Church
Law enforcement in Fort Myers, Florida, is searching for a 39-year-old felon accused of selling drugs near a local church. Kalvin Jones, a repeat offender with 25 prior arrests on 73 charges, is wanted on four counts of selling drugs in close proximity to the church. His criminal record includes offenses such as drug dealing, fraud, armed burglary, and aggravated battery on a pregnant victim. Jones has served two prior prison sentences totaling about five years and is believed to be hiding in central Fort Myers. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
Many of you know that I was a narcotics detective for many years. Frequently, I bought drugs in church parking lots. Why did drug dealers choose churches? I can’t tell you, nothing they do makes sense. But, I can tell you that it is important to keep an eye on your parking lots, especially those parts of the parking lot that are hidden from the main street. If you see what you think is a drug deal, DO NOT CONTACT THEM! Many drug dealers, and even users, are armed. They are often under the influence of drugs and are unpredictable.
ARSON
Historic South Memphis Church Destroyed in Arson
The former East Trigg Baptist Church in South Memphis, Tennessee, was intentionally set on fire Friday night, according to the Memphis Fire Department. Investigators have determined the fire was an act of arson, though no suspect information or estimated damage costs have been released. The historic church, located at East Trigg Avenue and Hemlock Street, holds significant family and community history. Relatives of the church's builder visited the remains on Saturday to reflect on its loss. The investigation into this act of arson is ongoing.
It is tough to be a Christian in Memphis. I’ve been seeing so many churches, pastors and congregants becoming victims in stories listed here in the newsletter. I think the only other city that comes close to the amount of crime against Christians is NYC. It is only anecdotal and my observations, but it is hard not to notice.
PROPERTY CRIMES
Pair Charged with Vandalizing Tyrone Church Over Alleged "Demonic" Beliefs
Two individuals, Garrett Trimm, 24, and Shaylyne Bunnell, 22, were arrested for allegedly vandalizing Bible Baptist Church in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. Authorities report the pair broke into the church on Hamilton Avenue, damaging security cameras, televisions, and other electronics, causing over $5,000 in damages. According to police, the suspects admitted to targeting the church because they believed it to be "demonic." Both have been charged with burglary, criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, and institutional vandalism and are awaiting further legal proceedings.

Fresno Deputies Arrest Church Burglar and Recover Stolen Items
Guadalupe Corrales, 38, was arrested in Fresno, California, for burglary and possession of stolen property after deputies on foot patrol near the Superior Courthouse found him with electronics reported stolen from a local church. The stolen items, including a video camera, laptop, audio interface, headphones, and a tripod, were linked to a burglary at a church near N. Abby Street and E. McKenzie Avenue. Corrales, who was already on probation, is being held without bail on additional charges. Authorities encourage anyone with further information to contact the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.

Man Arrested for Stealing Gold-Plated Rose from Manhattan Church's 9/11 Memorial
Deikel Alcantara, 21, was arrested and charged with third-degree grand larceny for allegedly stealing a gold-plated rose from the 9/11 memorial at St. Francis of Assisi Church on West 31st Street in Manhattan, New York. The theft targeted a symbolic item from the church's memorial honoring the victims of the September 11 attacks. Authorities apprehended Alcantara, and the investigation is ongoing.

Church Worker Stabbed in Muswell Hill, England: Teen Arrested
A church worker in her 40s was stabbed outside her home on St. James’s Lane in Muswell Hill, London, on the evening of November 27, 2024. Emergency services found the woman with two stab wounds, and she was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested a 17-year-old male at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH). The woman, described by the community as "energetic" and deeply involved in youth programs, is a member of St. James’s Church. Forensic investigators are reviewing CCTV footage as the teen remains in custody.
13 Benue Residents Killed by Suspected Herdsmen En Route to Church
Thirteen residents of Azege settlement in Benue State, Nigeria, were killed in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen on the morning of November 24, 2024. The victims, including women and children, were ambushed while preparing to attend church. According to Benjamin Uzenda, former Caretaker Chairman of Logo Local Government Area, the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, opened fire, butchered some victims, and destroyed farmlands before fleeing ahead of security forces' arrival. This incident highlights ongoing insecurity in Benue and other regions, as communities continue to face violence and displacement. Local leaders have called for increased military presence to address the crisis.
Church Leader in Antigua Escapes Gunman After Weapon Malfunctions
Apostle Dr. Stephen Andrews of St. John’s Pentecostal House of Restoration Ministries in Antigua recounted a "miraculous escape" after an armed burglar's gun failed to fire three times during an attempted robbery early Sunday morning. Security footage revealed Andrews discovering a break-in around 3:30 a.m., confronting the intruders, and retreating when one suspect aimed a malfunctioning weapon at him. The suspects fled the scene in Andrews’ vehicle, marking the church's second burglary in less than a week after a prior break-in resulted in stolen cash and electronics. Local authorities are investigating the incident.
This verse emphasizes God's ability to protect His servants and ensure that attempts to harm them ultimately fail. It beautifully aligns with the account of the gun malfunctioning during the attempted robbery.
